We are a research group interested in carrying out projects that go beyond the needs and problems posed by natural language processing, including the development of specific applications that serve the different areas with which GIL interacts.
Since 1999, GIL has developed research projects aimed at solving both theoretical and practical problems related to the use of human language in computational systems. This includes both scientific research and the creation of applications that can be used in the various areas with which the group collaborates.
The Grupo de Ingeniería Lingüística carries out projects related to natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, and linguistic engineering. For strategic purposes, a central applied research project is being developed, around which the different lines of research revolve.

Dr. Gerardo Eugenio Sierra Martínez
Researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Bibliográficas at UNAM and specialist in linguistic engineering and computational linguistics. He is the founder of GIL and one of the main driving forces behind the development of language technologies in Mexico. In addition, he is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI III) and founder of the Asociación Mexicana para el Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural (AMPLN).

Dra. Gemma Bel Enguix
Since 2016, Dr. Bel has been a Senior Researcher at the UNAM and is currently head of the Grupo de Ingeniería Lingüística. She has played a prominent role in international shared tasks (IberLEF, SemEval, ACL), especially in topics related to hate speech and social analysis of language. Dr. Bel brings to the GIL an international, formal, and computational perspective, connecting the linguistic tradition with modern AI and machine learning techniques.
